Programming Forum and web based access to our favorite programming groups. Thanks to everyone who took the time to post here. I appreciate it, and I appreciate the information. So I'm still knocking about the idea of attempting to add Peoplesoft to my repertoire. One of my IT acquaintenances chimed it with an opinion that Peoplesoft (and other ERP systems) hold little attraction for the younger (twenty-ish?) Java upstarts. And the ERP systems do seem to fall into a sort of "legacy" category of applications (even when web-enabled), also perhaps limiting their "attractiveness" to the younger technologists? I'm just trying to balance out the marketplace need for the skills with what my labor competition factor would be. Some of the Peoplesoft books might be hard to find. May have to try the used book aftermarket. Training costs seem prohibitively expensive, if I am doing it on speculation (no guaranteed contract work.) All the classes seem to be $2500-$3000 for four or five days, plus travel. Will Oracle "orphan" the Peoplesoft product line? "Milking" it to death with constantly increasing support costs? Could this indicate increasing opportunities for independent, third-party maintenance support services? I found of interest the post regarding the Java rewrite - it would seem to indicate evidence against the "sunsetting" of Peoplesoft, but perhaps I am not aware of what the Peoplesoft --> Oracle Financials "promotion" path and marketing plan are. I'll make others aware of any more findings I encounter...
