(2) Enterprise Cobol positions at major Canadian bank, Downtown Toronto
Hello folks,

One of my clients, an IT Services firm is presently looking for (2)
Cobol developers for a 6 month contract position at a major Canadian
bank in downtown Toronto, Canada. This contract may be open to
extension at the end of the term.

One of the banks is doing a major mainframe system switchover and they
need to convert from Cobol II to Enterprise Cobol.
Presently there are two positions available.

Junior/Intermediate Enterprise Cobol Developer - $25-$30hr (I know, its
not that good :) )
Cobol Technical Lead - $35-$45/hr
Start Date: last w of March

Required Experience
-Enterprise Cobol
-Cobol II
-OS390
-DB2, IMS
-JCL

Enterprise Cobol is a must. My client will not budge on this issue.
If anyone is interested in getting in the major banks or knows someone
who is, please get in touch with me. Start date is last w of March,
2006.

The COBOL itself is probably trivial if they are using 1985 syntax
(NOCMPR2 option) but the switching to Language Environment could be
tricky. They also may be wanting to make some changes in CICS
handling. If the job were in Halifax, Nova Scotia I might be
interested.

Did you mean the integrated CICS and DB2 translation or something more?

I'm an IMS TM bigot, I only get involved in CICS when the CICS developers
need advice such as using CALLs instead of EXEC CICS LINK/XCTL, how to get
Intertest to work, etc.

Are pre-LE compilers still supported, or are there people still running
unsupported OS releases which are not tied in with LE to the same extent
as current z/OS?

We converted to LE in the mid-1990s, taking the better part of 2 years
and struggling with 3 different LE versions before we decided it was ready f
or
prime time. I hope it wouldn't still be that sort of marathon to migrate.
