Or is it rather WM5 PocketPC Phone edition ? If it is the Smartphone edition: 1. Where's the equivalent Microsoft emulator for VS2005 ? 2. It's 320*240 - is this just "normal" landscape setting under WM5 ? (is the functionality of this the same as in WM5 PPC ? Do the OS user settings allow rotation ?) 2. Does the full QWERTY keyboard "keypad" section return the same raw codes as the keyboard on a normal Windows Smartphone edition device ? Thanks in advance. Dave (Parys Technografx)
Post Follow-up to this messageIt is running Smartphone rather than Pocket PC Phone Edition - no touch screen. 1. There is no landscape emulator (as yet) so nothing which matches the device directly (although there is a portrait QVGA emulator) 2. Previously Smartphone has not supported landscape and this will be AFAIK the first device to support this orientation. I believe that unlike Pocket PC there is no support for rotation - this is a fixed orientation for the device. 3. Difficult to say without checking on the device because keyboard implementations vary between OEMs. Peter -- Peter Foot Windows Embedded MVP www.peterfoot.net | www.inthehand.com "dave" <dave@parystec.demon.co.uk> wrote in message news:dqlhlp$igd$1$8300dec7@news.demon.co.uk... > Hi all, > > Is there anyone there who can definitively confirm > that the motorola Q is using WM5 Smartphone edition > as some (non-Motorola) articles I've read say ? > Or is it rather WM5 PocketPC Phone edition ? > > If it is the Smartphone edition: > > 1. Post Follow-up to this messageHi - apologies, I just found the previous thread regarding WM5 Smartphone landscape mode and I assume from that that the device is indeed using WM5 Smartphone. I'd still like an answer regarding the raw keycodes for the keypad section of the QWERTY keyboard, ie. do they match the codes from a "normal" Smartphone keyboard ? The answer dictates how urgently we need to start creating a compatible version of our software and indeed if it should be incorporated into the current Smartphone version or done as a separate program. Post Follow-up to this messageInteresting, since in the past it was said to have a touch-screen..... -- Helio Diamant MS-MVP/Mobile Devices www.pocketpcfreak.com "dave" <dave@parystec.demon.co.uk> wrote in message news:dqlk2o$m47$1$8300dec7@news.demon.co.uk... > Hi - apologies, I just found the previous thread > regarding WM5 Smartphone landscape mode and > I assume from that that the device is indeed using > WM5 Smartphone. > > I'd still like an answer regarding the raw keycodes > for the keypad section of the QWERTY keyboard, > ie. do they match the codes from a "normal" Smartphone > keyboard ? > The answer dictates how urgently we need to start creating > a compatible version of our software and indeed if it > should be incorporated into the current Smartphone version > or done as a separate program. > > "dave" <dave@parystec.demon.co.uk> wrote in message > news:dqlhlp$igd$1$8300dec7@news.demon.co.uk... > >
Post Follow-up to this messageIn that case I'm not convinced it IS a Smartphone and not PPC, can anyone respond to the question with a definite answer ? Motorola's page on it doesn't mention a touchscreen - but that could mean they're just afraid to mention it due to a perceived public dislike of "chunky" PPCs :-) "Helio Diamant - MS-MVP/Mobile Devices" <helio@nospam.pocketpcfreak.com> wrote in message news:OzPUS5DHGHA.2212@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > Interesting, since in the past it was said to have a touch-screen..... > > --
Post Follow-up to this messageJust in case anyone's wondering - the similar Treo 700w is definately using WM5 PPC Phone as our PTvncWM5 apperently works on it fine :-) We had more than one prospective beta-tester asking to try the Smartphone version of our software on their Treo !! Post Follow-up to this messageMany thanks for clearing that up Peter - your reply appeared just after I posted my second follow-up :-) I think we'll be doing a specific version of our VNC software for this format due to the considerable difference in keyboard method and capabilities and the display being landscape, though I'll include support for this Smartphone keyboard format at any resolution :-) Any idea if/how many other similar devices are likely to appear ? Post Follow-up to this messageI specifically asked one of the guys on the Microsoft Mobile team this question back in November and they said it is a Smartphone and not a PPC. -- Hal Berenson, President PredictableIT, LLC http://www.predictableit.com "dave" <dave@parystec.demon.co.uk> wrote in message news:dqlt3c$rpt$1$8302bc10@news.demon.co.uk... > In that case I'm not convinced it IS a Smartphone and not PPC, > can anyone respond to the question with a definite answer ? > Motorola's page on it doesn't mention a touchscreen - but > that could mean they're just afraid to mention it due to a > perceived public dislike of "chunky" PPCs :-) > > "Helio Diamant - MS-MVP/Mobile Devices" <helio@nospam.pocketpcfreak.com> > wrote in message news:OzPUS5DHGHA.2212@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > >
