I'm not convinced, though, that it's the *environment* that's hostile when cases in which matters of theological opinion are treated as matters of observable fact, and disagreements on a select group of specific points result in predictions of an eternity in flaming sulfur unless one party abandons his opinion or even heritage altogether.
