Need good Cobol book for novice
Hello,

I am in search of a good Cobol book for beginners with lots of
examples. Can anyone recommend one? I have Murach mainframe Cobol book
but it doesn't have enough sample code.

Also if i need help with a program is there a way to find someone who
can tutor me?

Thanks

Sams "Teach Yourself COBOL in 24 Hours" by Thane Hubbell, $19.97 U.S.
from www.amazon.com. The book comes with a CD that contains a free
version of Fujitsu COBOL, and there's lots of sample code. Thane also uses
good coding style. Good book, highly recommended.

You can post the problem, and what you've done so far here, and there
will probably be some folks that could help you. If you'd rather not
post it in a public forum, you could send that same info to me, and I'll
help you as I get a chance. :)

This isn't a book, but it's the website I used to get started with
COBOL. It has lots of examples, and comes with a few exercises too:

Re: Need good Cobol book for novice
Hi,
One that helped me quite a bit was "Simplified Structured COBOL with
Microsoft/Microfocus COBOL", by Daniel D. McCracken and Donald G.
Golden. The ISBN is 0-471-51407-1. You might be able to find a copy at
http://www.abebooks.com or maybe http://www.ebay.com

The majority of the book is code examples.

Also, check out
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/joeca...rogrammingstuff and look in
the Files section. There you will find a COBOL folder with example code
for use with Microsoft/Microfocus COBOL.

Joe
