Total and complete Newb
Hey folks,

I am about to embark on a path to add development skills to my carreer. I
have access to many resources, however, I am curious what folks would say is
a good way to start.

Re: Total and complete Newb
Get a good foundation of data structures and algorithms using C if you
want to be a serious developer.

Re: Total and complete Newb
Change your name to something like Keshmeshbala Patel, learn how to
script VBS, move to India, apply for a work visa in the US and take a
$40/hr american job from someone for about $18/hr. Work really hard for
3-4 years, save everything you make and move back to India and live
like a king.

... that's the best way to get a tech job in the US under the Bush
Administration. ;)

Re: Total and complete Newb
That depends upon what current computer skills you have. Often there
are specific resources for moving from one area of computing (IT
support, for example) to development.

So... what do you do currently that would be a starting point for
learning development skills?

I'm basically an infrastucture consultant on Windows platform. The bulk of
my time is spent advising customers on new and forthcoming technologies,
conducting pilots and proofs of concept. Strong networking background. I
am primarily interested in developing applications that extend Microsoft
Backend server solutions like Exchange and Live Communications Server. I am
also interested in developing peer -to- peer collaboration tools
incorporating voice, video and data sharing.
