I'm sorry you don't get the point. The point is that if you back up the
file with a COBOL program, then you know for sure that it is OK.
The utility will merely backup the file even if it is damaged .

Well, then you lead a charmed life.  From time to time over the past
few
years, I have encountered source files which had been partly
overwritten.
This has happened to me with XP which, is I think, a modern system.
Am I the only person in the world to suffer this, I think not.
