hp-ux compiler
Hi,
I am a newbe with Cobol. I want to learn more about programming in Cobol,
but I hear people say that my compiler will not work on my hp9000 with hp-ux
11.
Is this correct, and if so, is there an affordable solution for this
problem?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

As you haven't said what 'my compiler' is then it is not possible to
say whether it is correct or not. Is it one that you wrote ? or one
that you run on a PC ?

The HP9000 is not an Intel PC. HPUX 11 is not Windows. If 'my
compiler' is not specifically for HP9000 and HPUX 11 then, no, it won't
work.

Probably not. You could try to get OpenCobol or TinyCobol compiled to
run on HPUX, but it may take a lot of work.

Re: hp-ux compiler
The compiler I have is a copy from another machine. The problem I will get
with this (so I am told) with the license file and/or the machine ID.

Do we have to assume that the 'another machine' is not an AS/400 or SGI
or Sun or ??

So it is not just 'from another machine', it is _stolen_ from another
machine.

Re: hp-ux compiler
I thought there must be a way for test and training purposes?

There might be, at that. What prevents you from asking your local HP
representative about this?

You're quite welcome... and no, in my experience it is not. Second
request, then: what prevents you from asking your locak HP representative
about this?

Re: hp-ux compiler
Serious response to a semi-humorous question.

This newsgroup includes (but is not limited to) a number of people who make
their LIVINGS (directly or indirectly) from the sale of software and/or the
development of software.

Therefore, when someone posts to the newsgroup asking for a solution REQUIRI
NG
the theft of software (intellectual property) this usually (often) gets a pr
etty
cold response.

I doubt that anyone here wants to be a dead racist of dubious sexual
orientation.
