Technical Specialist - Business Intelligence/Data warehouse Permanent

Our client requires an experienced Technical Specials with business
intelligence, reporting and
data warehousing experience working in an AIX Oracle and Windows NT
Cognos environment
with operational data sourced primarily from a mainframe MVS environment.

Responsibilities
-	Provided technical leadership to one or more medium to large projects
consisting of
multi-disciplinary teams focusing on business intelligence,
management reporting and
data warehouse applications
-	Investigates and analyses problems, business requirements and the
impact of changes for
project up to high complexity in order to recommend
appropriate solutions
-	Determines scope and prepares detailed requirements documents for
projects up to high
complexity to ensure scope and business requirements
are understood and acceptable to
all impacted areas.
-	Works with programmer analyst to design solutions to meet business
requirements related to
business intelligence and data warehouse applications
-	Tests delivered systems solutions and monitors systems after implementatio
n
to ensure
they satisfy requirements
-	Provides direction to internal and external users and assists in
the effective and efficient
resolution of issues.
-	Identifies opportunities for Application services to ensure high
quality in all deliverables and
continuous improvement in application development
-	Provides mentoring to other business intelligence and data warehouse
staff in order to
help them progress in their professional development
and optimize performance

General Requirements
-	Minimum of seven(7) years progressive experience in information Services
-	Minimum of three(3) years relevant experience
-	Demonstrated experience in project development using system development
life cycle
documentation
-	Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills and experience
-	Ability to organize, plan and direct tasks and assignments effectively
-	Ability to work together with others to resolve complex problems
-	Experience in evaluating and recommending third party products and
services
-	A flexible and adaptable team player that is service oriented
-	Excellent analytical problem solving critical thinking and decision
making skills
-	Excellent oral and written communication skills

Technical Skills
-	Required
-	Minimum three (3) years demonstrated experience in analyzing and
designing business
intelligence and reporting applications using commercially
available software products.
-	Current experience with business intelligence products such as Cognos
Impromptu and
Powerplay
-	Microsoft Office (Access, Excel and Word)
-	Minimum two (2) years experience developing data warehouse extract,
transform and
load (ETL) applications in an AIX and Oracle environment
using a commercially
available ETL software product.
-	In depth knowledge of data warehouse dimensional modeling practices

Strongly Preferred
-	Experience in the insurance industry, particularly property and causality
insurance
-	Ability to review and assess technical infrastructure, data sources,
data quality,
organizational infrastructure and processes.
-	Good Oracle 8i PL/SQL skills
-	Good AIX scripting skills
-	Experience in IBM mainframe development

Education
-	Minimum three year college diploma with a major in computer science
or equivalent experience
