Mirroring za.php.net : Ben Greenwood

Hello there,

My name is Ben Greenwood and I am a keen Open-Source engineer and a
PHP scriptor. I live in South Africa and have been running #php
channels on many local IRC servers for quite a while now and have
decided to take the idea further. I would like to run a network of
sites in South Africa that are geared towards PHP and Open-Source but
contrary to the growing trend of these sites only being understood by
the elite brained individuals, I would like to create a simple, quick
and easy way to access information relevant to begginners and experts
alike.
Being that I often spend late nights answering the same questions
constantly over IRC, I would like the network to provide Tutorials,
FAQ's and access to the Software needed to make things like this work.
Amongst others, I find the Rhodes University mirror a little slow and
often bogged up with too much other stuff. I do know the people who
run the servers and have nothing against them, but just feel that our
developing country and developing coders, deserve a slightly better
option and a more efficient means of accessing essential information.
It took me a very very long time to get hold of the PHP manual off
their mirror, because it often Times Out and gives very strange errors
on a regular basis. Again, I have nothing against them, but feel that
there is a slight lack/deficiency which could be solved by the
introduction of a new South African server.

I am currently looking into the funding side of this project and would
like your feedback as to the possibility of us making this work!

There used to be a za.php.net, but it is misconfigured since the end of
august, and the maintainer have not replied to our wly notices since
then, so we are about to replace it with another candidate if available.
