Programming Forum and web based access to our favorite programming groups. Is anybody else still running Realia Cobol 4.217? We have run it successfully under Win95/in98/WinNT/Win2k/WinXP, using the FORCEDOS command to make it work in NT/2k/XP. All was well until we set up a test system with XP SP2 installed. Most of the programs work perfectly. The exception is when we try to debug a program. The COMMAND session locks up when trying to run debug (REALDBUG.EXE) on a machine running XP with SP2 installed. We suspect it has to do with DEP (Data Execution Protection). However, we are not using CPUs that use hardware DEP, and we've tried disabling software DEP every which way, but we still cannot debug programs. Any (ANY) assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Post Follow-up to this messagequote:I’m also in this quest. I originally paid 500 for Realia Cobol 3.0 and then a nominal fee to upgrade to 4.2, Now CAI is asking me to pay 7.000 plus 21% sales tax. I’ve got only two small customers using a down sized system which is also running in main-frame. Under no circumstance can I request them to pay this amount, between both of them their spending less than 300, a year o n maintance. Please advice me if you have any alternative.

Post Follow-up to this messagequote:Odd - I just read a news release dated a couple of years ago from CA which e ffectively stated "go back on support for $150/license, and you get to take advantage of Workbench". Seems strange that they would make you bend over t o the tune of $7k if they were going to make that kind of a deal not too lon g ago...
