VSS shadow folders

Hello,  I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with.  What is
the method for removing a shadow folder for a project?  Is it just a matter
of deleting the path to the shadow folder in the projects options window?
Also, I want to be sure I keep the history for a project so I'm curious what
impact there is when removing the shadow folder for a project?
