But when package2 goes stable it becomed package2 2.y.z

So, yes, within one package only 2 values are valid for x. 0 for
pre-stable releases, and the package major version # for and after the
first stable release.

ah yes .. i was going by memory ... but obviously my memory was failing
me ..
