Programming Forum and web based access to our favorite programming groups.i saw an answer to this issue somewhere but I can't find it anymore. so if this is a repeat, forgive me. I'm trying to reinstall the drivers for my scanner and the installer won't open. i've got 10.3.6, with a Canon N650U scanner. went to the website and got the ScanExpertv380x app. Stuffit is Deluxe. 8.0.2. Unstuffed it and tried to open installer and got nothing. no error or anything. it just flashed like it was going to open and then didn't. any suggestions.

Run the utility "Console" and see what ends up in the console log when you launch the installer. It could be a Stuffit problem. The 8.x StuffIt Engine seems to be very flakey.

It looks like Canon isn't making an OS-X driver for the N650U scanner. What I did, was I copied the old Canoscan Toolbox into my System 9 applications folder. Then, in order to use the one-click to copy feature, I copied my printer driver into the extensions folder of Sys 9. The front-button (of the scanner) functionality won't work across the OS-X/Classic barrier, so I just keep an alias of Canoscan Toolbox in the dock. Works great. I haven't tried the one-click Fax function yet -- I suppose I'll have to figure out an equivalent method using the built-in OSX fax function. I also discovered that Samsung isn't making any further OS-X drivers (I have a cheapie monotone laser printer from them, about a year old) I sent them a letter telling them of my disappointment with their shortsighted attitude toward the Mac platform. I got a really snarky reply, telling me I just "plain don't understand" how drivers work, etc. The same guy told me that Apple keeps changing their OS, and so frequently, that it "breaks" the Samsung drivers. I can't print my reply here, assuming this is a "family" newsgroup!! <heh heh>

I upgraded my computer and changed my systems drive to a bigger drive and now it won't open so I can put the plugin back into Photoshop, which is actually my pref since I rarely scan anything that I'm not about to edit.

Never mind - I found it. But I guess I'm. This appears to be a plug-in, and I don't run anything like Photoshop right now. I simply want to enable the scanner to run under OS-X, instead of switching into Classic the way it does if I start Canoscan Toolbox. Maybe I should leave well enough alone, or is there something I'm missing here?

I should have thought of that sooner. I guess I didn't cause I had just installed it when I redid my drives.
