Programming Forum and web based access to our favorite programming groups.Since a complete reinstall of Win XP Home (with SP2) & VB6 (with SP6B) the Help system is doing strange things. For example, if I get help on a topic and then click one of the links like "Example", "See Also", etc. When I first click a link it does not do anything, but if I click another link first then the noresponsive link will work the next time it is clicked. There is no pattern to which links work and which don't! Every time Help is opened for the same topice, different links will behave strangely! Another problem I have just encountered: If I enter "8002" as a search term it will bring up MSComm error codes (which is what I wanted). If I repeat the search it will crash VB!
Post Follow-up to this messageNot sure on the Help file but SP6 has known issues with Visual Basic. Not sure why you listed SP6B - I couldn't find if MS released a fixed version...You may want to uninstall VB6 and re-install upto Service Pack 5 - this is the only way to remove SP6... Let us know if the problem still persists after rolling back to SP5 -- Chris Hanscom - Microsoft MVP (VB) http://www.veign.com -- "Brad Hanscom" <noone@nowher.com> wrote in message news:%23loiYXRvEHA.1984@TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... > > Since a complete reinstall of Win XP Home (with SP2) & VB6 (with SP6B) the > Help system is doing strange things. Post Follow-up to this messageHi Chris! Interesting last name! When I did the re-install (including SP5)- that is when the problem started (it was running flawlessly for a year before that). When it crashed today I got the MS dialog to report the problem and it sent me to a link suggesting that I download SP 6B. I was hoping for a better solution than another complete re-install <sigh>. If you can't think of anything else I'll do another re-install tomorrow. Post Follow-up to this messageThe one time I had a major issue with the MSDN help file, which strangely enough was after a complete installation, I was forced to uninstall the MSDN and re-install it... Let us know how and if it all works out... -- Chris Hanscom - Microsoft MVP (VB) http://www.veign.com -- "Brad Hanscom" <noone@nowher.com> wrote in message news:uVMtYPSvEHA.2564@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > Hi Chris! > > Interesting last name! > > When I did the re-install (including SP5)- that is when the problem started > (it was running flawlessly for a year before that).
