OSX

I am contemplating a switch to OSX. Is Tcl/Tk up to date on OSX?

yes (and mostly).

If you build/run an X11 based Tk is is identical to any other
*nix Tk - (and apple gives you the X11 server that runs on OSX)

There is also a native Aqua (the GUI part of OSX) port of Tk which
is very nearly as good. There has been a lot of hard work on it and
it shows, it looks & runs well.  There are still a few rough edges
in a couple of spots, but I still use it.

And above & beyond Tk I would definitely  recommend making the switch.

And I believe with the Tile project, Tk looks very good under OS X:

BTW, what version of Tcl is installed by default on OSX?

I don't remember. I use Daniel's AuqaBI distro which is pretty current
and has a ton of extensions alrady built in.

Doesn't much matter.  Google TclTkAqua, and download the
batteries-included distribution.  It's 8.4.7.
