UNIX history book.
I'm looking for a detailed reference on UNIX history. I've seen lots
of details on various websites and found references to the following
books:-

A quarter century of UNIX
Life with UNIX

Could anyone recommend either of these or another as a complete
detailed account of UNIX?

Thanks.

That book by Peter Salus is pretty good, from an anecdotal
point of view. It ispretty detailed and complete, but how
much so depenbds on what you're looking for...

So it seems! Must be a lack of M&Ms (I bought 12 KG box of peanut
M&Ms to celebrate to publishing of my book; it took me almost a month
to eat 'em, and I gave a away a lot!)...

Both those books are more anecdotal than attempts to be a complete
history. On the other hand, I don't know of any book that does attempt
to be a complete history.

I agree with Rich about the Salus book. Depending on what you're
looking for, there is also some information in Eric Raymond's _The Art
of Unix Programming_, Chapter 2:
<http://catb.org/~esr/writings/taoup...orychapter.html>

It is sort of anecdotal, too, but then I guess that tends to be the
nature of something that is largely oral history.

Re: UNIX history book.
Additionally, Éric Lévénez' diagram "History of Unix"
(http://www.levenez.com/unix/) is highly recommended. No details there,
but interesting insights into the evolution of almost any known Unix
system on earth.

I got mine from Costco. I think it cost somehting like $75
Canadian.

I think the real question is "how does one eat 12KG of M&Ms?".
The answer to that is "slowly, and give lots away!" :-)
