Both those books are more anecdotal than attempts to be a complete history. On the other hand, I don't know of any book that does attempt to be a complete history. b

Depending on what you're looking for, there is also some information in Eric Raymond's _The Art of Unix Programming_, Chapter 2: <http://catb.org/~esr/writings/taoup...orychapter.html> It is sort of anecdotal, too, but then I guess that tends to be the nature of something that is largely oral history. -- Rich Gibbs rgibbs@alumni.princeton.edu
Post Follow-up to this messageAdditionally, Éric Lévénez' diagram "History of Unix" (http://www.levenez.com/unix/) is highly recommended. No details there, but interesting insights into the evolution of almost any known Unix system on earth. \Steve

I think the real question is "how does one eat 12KG of M&Ms?". The answer to that is "slowly, and give lots away!" :-) -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA, author of "Solaris Systems Programming" President, Rite Online Inc.
