hang up when saving code (.cpp file)

Hi,
Unexpectably, a couple of days ago, when I save my source file (only
about a thousand lines or so) the system seems to hang and will
eventually save the file, but takes about 100% cpu utilization.  This
only happens with visual studio.

So far, I have tried: repair, removing unneeded programs to acquire
more space, scanned the harddrive for problems.  I have spent two days
without really getting anywhere and hope someone can suggest something
to try other than re-installing Windows XP and starting over.

I have version 2002 academic version, run Windows XP home (without SP2)
