Visual Studio Trial Install on Windows 2000 Server (with all service packs)

Hi,

I have used several MS Training Kits to get my MCAD.  Fore each of the three
I had used one install of VS.NET Pro that came with the kit.  It has sence
expired and of course it doesn't run.  I un-installed using the Add/Remove
Programs Task.

Last w I started the Wed Development Kit (70-305) and I tried to install
a new version of VS.NET with it's own new key.  The install was clean.  When
I tried to execute it, the message 'Invalid key.....' was displayed.

Does anyone know what else I need to do to remove/cleanup before installing
the new version?

I contacted Microsoft and they pointed me to the web pages with all the
textual changes to the book.  None had anything to do with the install.

Even if you "cleanly" uninstall your old trial version of Visual Studio, I'm
sure it leaves some remnants somewhere in your registry or file system to
indicate that you have surpassed your trial period. Therefore even if you
try to reinstall Visual Studio trial using another serial, you will not be
able to because you have done so already. If what you are trying to do is
possible, then we can all just grab a bunch of VS trial disks and never have
to buy VS.NET at all.

Unfortunately, it is essentially telling you to go buy VS.NET.

Hi Eric,

I understand what you are saying, and the reasoning behind it.

However,  I have spent good money for their 70-305/315 training kit that
included a copy of VS.NET Pro.  Therefore I have a very valid reason and
right to install this new copy on my system, even though a previous trial
version, from another valid kit (70-306) I had also purchased, has expired.

If MS wants to promote a certification, using their training materials, they
should allow subsequent training kit software to be installed.  (It is
unreasonable to expect a person to complete a five section certification
such as MCSD to be completed within the 60 trial period.)
