Flex Query in Implementation "yy_accept"

[ the context here is generating lexers for embedded systems
where memory is tight -John]

The maximum value in the "yy_accept" array is less than 256 can i
declare it as unsinged char...  ......  can any body explain about the
tables that flex generates & how to reduce their size(even tweaking
flex code)..apart from using flex size options..
