Programming Forum and web based access to our favorite programming groups.(In case some other idiot runs into this ...) the problem was that I was not in design view (or design mode or whatever it's called). I guess the toolbox is context sensitive, so when you are not in design mode/view the toolbox does not contain the design tools. Like I said in the original post, I am a real novice! Hey, it happened to me. I was afraid I was hosed. Then the tools came back as mysteriously as they had disappeared. I finally realized what was happening. Duh.
