decoding

Can anyone please explain what decoding an image means? I tried
googling but I failed to get relevant results.

So what's "an image" for you? My photographs don't fit into the floppy
slot (-; so they have to be digitally represented somehow.  That's
what "encoding" means. Decoding is the reverse.
