I can't believe Jimmy got me on this reminiscent tangent - I hadn't even
thought about her for quite a while.  Everyone called her "Angie", and
that song came out about the time we became friends.  I started calling
her "Angel", and darned if other folks didn't start picking up on it.
It was a subtle change, but instead of being Angie the lounge waitress,
she became Angel the hostess, and last I heard, was the head hostess,
which is part of the management chain for that restaurant.  That's
impressive, given that it's family-owned, and management doesn't really
change much there.

I don't know if the nickname change had anything to do with it, although
I'd like to think that our friendship helped her feel better about
herself as person.  Things might have worked out the same even if I had
never worked there - as DD said in another thread, you never
knooooo-ooooow!  :)

Muzak has lots of different offerings.  The aforementioned restaurant
ordered big tapes (they looked like oversized 8-tracks), that played
something like 4 hours straight.  On the wends, we'd start to hear
repeats toward the end of the shift.  Godfather's used Muzak too, but
used their adult contemporary channel.  Cracker Barrel just used the
local country music station, which was fine - Sunday nights was classic
night, and they'd play some _really_ nostalgic music.  :)

These days, you can get the same thing on digital cable or XM.

That line about your gf reminds me of a joke...  A man and his wife were
both graduating from college - he with his doctorate, she with her
masters degree.  They walked in their house after graduation, and the
man turned to his wife and said, "Honey, from now on, I want you to call
me 'Doctor'."  She replied, "Okay, as long as you call me master."

(Okay, I didn't say it was that good of a joke...  ;>  )
