Programming Forum and web based access to our favorite programming groups.Creation of the "Down Pillow" Compression Algorithm Control Codes: Step 1 of 88 I am posting a series of steps to comp.compression so that there can be an external record of my efforts to create a sucessful copy of control codes to use in the "Down Pillow" compression algorithm as discussed earlier this year. Please disregard these posts if you value your time; time is money of course. You are warned up front, so don't accuse me of wasting your time. Concern yourself only if I am sucessful and, of course, you will have access to everything you need to know in the archive. But, if you are like me and love wasting your time on frivolous pursuits play along with me if you dare. Erik T. Evenson Step 1 of 88 Using the pseudo-random number generation program supplied in one of the earliest posts create a random (base 256) file of length 17,694,720 bytes. Be sure that the program has the original random seed data and the initial (null) settings for the prime sub-wheels. !!!Important!!! Be sure to use a ramdisk to prevent hard drive damage. If you can't find a ramdisk to support the large file size then create smaller sections of the file and add them together. Be sure to follow the comments in the program. Be creative; it can be done. If you cannot stand using Qbasic for DOS modify the programs I suggest to your language of choice, or develop your own program that gives the same result. Give the resulting random number file the following filename: DPC01_01.DAT More to follow.

One suggestion: Don't post messages from your Game Boy. Or are you posting from a C64 or Apple II? I can't think of any other reason you are arbitrarily limiting the length of your lines to 32 characters... Also, nobody is interested in reading 88 different posts. Make a web page, put your entire method on it, THEN post in this forum the URL of that page along with a request for comments.

I am using my old trusty Timex-Sinclar 1000 ;-) No, actually I just hate reading responses with jumbled lines because of lengthy embedded arguments. Just an acquired habit. Sorry if I increase the load on your vertical eye muscles. You don't have to read my posts. > > Also, nobody is interested in reading 88 different posts. Posting my methods to the comp.compression newsgroup is my safegard in preserving my efforts in case of catastropic file loss. You have the option of excluding the listing of my posts and username if you can't stand the sight of my postings. The message load on this newsgroup surely can handle the one post a wI will contribute. Don't get stuck in an "infinite loop" on this point. EE

Ignoring your misuse of usenet newsgroups as your personal backup storage, I'm sure everyone here agrees that you shouldn't make unsubstantiated claims if you want people to take you seriously. Use diskettes, CDROMs, etc. for your backups, and work on your theory until it is *finished* and *proven*. Then post it all at once, preferably on a web page for people to reference. > You have the option of > excluding the listing of my posts and username if you > can't stand the sight of my postings. > The message load on this newsgroup surely > can handle the one post a wI will contribute. That's not the point. Ignoring you is something I would do if I didn't agree with what you said. I don't want to ignore you; rather, I would like to see you respect the individuals and concepts in this newsgroup, if not all newsgroups in general.
