Crash Course on MySQL in PHP

very simple. just need a crash course on using mysql in php. the
majority of this is gonna be used inside of phpnuke so actually
connecting to the dataase shouldnt be needed as the config.php will
already be called.

basically what im looking for is simply how to pull info from the db
and hwo to write info to the db. and security is definitely
important.
