JAVA File Encryption on PDAs with JDK 1.1.8

JAVA File Encryption on PDAs with JDK 1.1.8
Does anyone of you have a clue of how to achieve a proper
encryption / scrambling of a configuration file in JAVA
when using the JDK 1.1.8 (running on an iPaq PDA)?!

I can just find solutions using the cryptography extension
of JAVA 2 ...

Any input will be highly appreciated.
