How to port Tandem COBOL??
Hi !

Our customer is looking for solution to migrate existing Tandem system
applications to other platform.

The existing Nonstop system works based on COBOL/SCOBOL/TAL written
programs.
These programs using NONSTOP/SQL, ENSCRIBE FILES.

Is there any used/worked solution from somebody??

Thx.

How could you possibly expect a serious helpful reply without stating the
platform being migrated to? I've been involved in a number of migrations and
one of them did involve Tandem COBOL, but I'm making no further comment
until you post proper details.

Pete.

Re: How to port Tandem COBOL??
My goodness, but some of us are soooo superior in our knowledge, and
soooo supercilious in our answers.

If you have a reasonable answer, why not simply give it ? The
requestor probably does not know what platform they plan to move too,
as they don't know what options there are. If you don't have a
reasonable answer, maybe it would be better if you simply kept out of
it.

Thanks for that statement.

As a general rule regular posters here (like me) are very happy to help
(without being superior about it... I have had help from enough people in my
career to recognise that we all need it occasionally. In fact, one reason I
post here is in order to give something back...)

Ignoring posters is generally unhelpful, but there are reasonable statements
of a problem that allow us to give useful help.

Pete.

Being unemployed and probably unemployable then I would say that
unless he could do the job then he should not fake it and stop honest
people from taking the job. Mean? yes. Bitter? yes. Tough.

And I do recall that you have provided me with information in the past
(which I passed on to my boozy chum) and I am grateful for that.
Thanks.

Already been said, old boy, and there's no need to repeat yourself. If
you so desire you might wish to consider telling your
partner-in-bibulousness (a booz'um buddy?) that *his* debt will be
satisfied by assisting your job-search.

My booz'm buddy already has assisted me in job searching.
Unfortunately, he has a track record of being made redundant from
companies and I fear that, after his current project has completed
phase 3, he will be made redundant again.

Consider:

'This debt will be satisfied by your doing a task.'

'I did a task.'

''To have done' is not the same as 'doing'... get doing, please.'

All the more time he'll have to get to assisting you, then.

Re: How to port Tandem COBOL??
Good Day For All!

First of all i do not really wanted to bother or hurt anybody. Sorry
if i did....

I am a Tandem expert since 1998.
I wont tell the company what we working for, cause my managers will
kick my...

Our customer is a telecommunication company size of ~1.5M customer.
Daily average ~8M CDR.
Our database ~3Tbyte.
Our code is ~4M lines of code.

As u see the project to port to something is not a piece of cake....

The reason to PING the forum was to see is there any kind of company
who made any kind of porting from Tandem.

And the main reason was to see ANY kind of possibilities. We had not
made any kind of statement to our customer, so NO choosed platform.

Right now we try to make a VERY HIGH LEVEL SCOPE about the
possibilities... After this short doc we will invsetigate each one.

I do know companies like LegacJ, AEI,etc.. where we found solutions
for porting.. I just guessed this forum might saw others made such a
work...

So lastly again i do not wanted to hurt u community....
Thx..

No, you didn't. You posted in good faith.

Don't worry about it.

Hope you find a solution.

Pete.
