When posting to comp.lang.cobol please include a rate, or range of rates, associated with the position(s) offered; doing otherwise leads many to conclude that you are either trolling for resumes or running a blind ad to determine rates. Few people learn much doing development except how to create work for others (production support). > v Should have good analytical skills. > v Should have good communication skills. You won't get those with developers. >

Hmmmmm... where was that... ahhhhh, wonderful thing, this Deja... errrr, this Google... from <http://groups.google.com/group/comp...e& hl=en> --begin quoted text: ... sounds a bit more reasonable than the pimp who told me that the client wanted a 'great, heads-down, run-with-the-ball coder who was a real Team Player'... the following interchange ensued: Me: 'Hmmm... that is kind of like asking for someone with all the fierce, *searing* insight of the True Introvert... but he has to be good with people, too!' Possibly what the customer asked for but certainly not what they thought they were asking for; 3. Possibly to provide the customer with what they asked for but definitely not what they needed; 4. Correcting errors in design/analysis/programming; 5. (And this is my favourite) Never tested as the development ran out of budget (and after all, what are product support analysts for except to catch all development pratfalls?). My problem isn't with you but is with the original job-poster who seems to assume that production support analysts don't know anything about development, design, analysis. I learned a lot by fixing other peoples' errors.
