PAD repository data

Hello, hope I'm not being perceived as too lazy or ch y but...
Can someone tell me if it is possible to get the PAD repository data from
somewhere - in a form that could be imported into a MySQL database? (i.e.
someone has a database with the PADs entered - then exported the data for
later import.) I appreciate tables/fields would differ but they could be
translated with some simple SQL to suit.
The PAD Repository is a great resource but in my case I don't fancy typing
in 18500+ PAD URLS :-)

Dave,
on http://www.asp-shareware.org/pad/padlib.asp you can select "Generic
listing" to get a list of PAD URLs instead of the HTML formatted output.
Select the URLs in your browser and save the clipboard content to a text
file. Now you have a text file with each line containing one URL. That
should be something you can feed into your database.

Thanks for the reply Oliver.
I have indeed saved the text file as you described but it really would be a
lot easier just to import the Data directly from an existing SQL export I
think.
I tried inputting (manually) the first few URLs and everyone had a problem
of some sort that required manual intervention (couldn't determine a
suitable category so I had to make a judgement call on a best fit).
If someone has got the t-shirt for importing the data in the way you
mentioned then I'd love to hear from them :)
It would be very useful if the ASP could supply the repository contents in a
zipped SQL file but I guess you don't fancy the extra work either!
Regards: Dave.

Hello Oliver.
Further to your advice, I coded some PHP to parse the URLs you provide into
the MySQL database.
One thing of note perhaps, out of the 23320 URLs only 3211 PADs were
imported the vast majority of the "failures" were due to the category type
not matching any of the "standard" ones. There were a few hundred that had
problems like not existing (!) or the PAD location was different but they
were minor in comparison.
So perhaps you could ask current uploaders to the repository to update their
categories to match?
Anyway, I'm glad its finished for now, it took over 24Hrs continuous
downloading on a high speed connection and some faffing around until I had
the automatic insertion code working.
Thanks to you and the ASP for providing a great resource - I hope you can
make it even better (re: categories etc) as it can only benefit all
concerned.
Dave.

The category field you might be referring to has been recently added to the
PAD specification. Since PADGen 2 with support for it is around since summer
this year, it will take some time for authors to adopt.
Looking at the PAD version information information inside the PAD files, you
will see that probably most of those that don't include that category info
are PAD 1 files. So, although they do not contain the desired field, they
might be valid PAD 1 files. The author simply did not convert to support PAD
2 yet. Give it some time and the majority of authors will produce PAD 2
files.

| Dave,
I’ve followed your dialog with Oliver and like you I would like to get the ASP database in some simple form. It sounds like you’ve made some progress. Any chance of getting a copy?
