| Hi. I am struggling to get hits on my web site. I advertise with a
tourism company, so I get hit by people finding my site through theirs
...... but I won't rest until I get hits in my own right. I've
submitted to the free submission companies, and given key words etc
..... but still nothing. Has anyone got any suggestions? Go right
back to basics please!!! What do I need to do to my web site before
it is submitted again? I want to be able to type my keywords into
Google - and find my site in the results.

First off you should include your website in your signature in community forums
like this one. If you share your url people can also give you SEO advice. The
urls in newsgroups can potentially increase your PR as many places like
GoogleGroups index forums.
Bottom line, let us see your website so that we can give you qualified advice,
which will result in traffic :-)

1.) Do a web search on "Search Engine Optimization" or "SEO" and find some
of the many sites with information. Then follow the advice and make your
website search-engine-friendly so that Google and others will find you and
hopefully push you up in the rankings.
2.) A key aspect of #1 above is to develop inbound links. You already have
one, from the tourism company - find more. Don't get involved in 'link
farms' but find related sites and offer to exchange links (you should have
an outbound "Useful Links" page). Even if those links don't bring in much
traffic themselves, their presence will help raise your postion in web
searches.
3.) Try engaging in Google's Adwords advertising. program. Many people find
it to be profitable.
