Before receiving the build they will keep on working on a suit to
prepare it for execution (fixing defects in tests, removing invalid
tests and replacing them with valid ones, etc.). Automation team will
also prepare test beds, so as to have them all ready to run tests to
the moment when a new build is expected. All they have to do when a
build comes is hitting the Start button.

As it was already mentioned here this is a good idea to have a Smoke
test suit executed before a big suit in order to indicate major
problems sooner, thus preventing waste of time and efforts on a big
run.
