I hear many people say that the Certified Software Tester (CSTE)
certification from the Quality Assurance Institute (QAI) is a good
certification to have. That may be so if all you are interested in is
software testing. However, the Certified Software Quality Engineer
(CSQE) certification from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) is a
much better one. It covers not only software testing but all aspects
of software quality including standards, models, leadership tools,
processes, methodologies, audits, reviews and inspections,
requirements management, software design methods, program and project
management, risk management, software metrics and measurement,
software configuration management, and the ethics of our profession.
If all you ever want to be is a software tester, a CSTE may be good
enough. But if you want to be a recognized leader in software quality
in your organization, your Company, and the industry, if you want to
be promoted to higher levels of responsibility and authority at your
firm or s better positions elsewhere, you should seriously consider
getting the CSQE certification.
