| Hello,
I am doing an assignment as part of my university work, the subject
here is software engineering and namely software testing.
Basically I would appreciate it if anyone here can help me locate any
journals or academic material relating to the history of software
testing, something substantial that could be used to base a 3000 word
essay on.
I would appreciate any help.
Cheers
Chris

| Look the book :
Automating Specification-Based Software Testing. by Poston, Robert M.
USA: IEEE Computer Society Press, 1996.
This book covers different historical aspects of software testing and
automation.
or search by Poston, Robert

Alex

| Hello Christo,
Here is some useful info I guess:
http://www.skilledtester.de/history.html
it is classified from about 1956 to 1988
it is from the year 1988 from:
* Gelperin, D., and Hetzel, B. (1988): "The Growth of Software
Testing," CACM, Vol. 31, No. 6
Here you have a free document where also a summary can be found on the
first literature: Laycock, G. T. (1993): "The Theory and Practice of
Specification Based Software Testing," University of Sheffield
Department of Computer Science
CU, Erkan YILMAZ

| Hi,
Sounds like a good project. Will be great if you can share this with us
once you are done.
You might also want to follow up and read material on Agile testing,
context driven testing, Test driven development etc. It will be
interesting to note how testing is becoming more and more important and
changing the way software and projects are being managed.
Also, how big organizations of IT Industry are focused on software
testing business. You can find evidence of this in the increasing
number of IT Service companies specialized in providing testing
consultancy. Also, big organizations like IBM, HP and Borland have
bought product companies like Rational, Mercury and Segue to have their
presence in testing tool market.
Another interesting thing to note could be number of patents being
filed, which are related to software testing practices, tool etc.
Well.. I guess I should stop with this list.. you can just go on and
on.. with this. All the best.
Thanks,
Anand
