Hello friends!

Recently, I have joined a organization as a QA lead, but i dont know a
bit of QA. Is there any one who can guide me in this regard. It would
be more better if some friend can chat me at msn messenger. Because, I
would have many questions in my mind. Although, testing is based
without any functional specs documents.

Immediate reply would be highly appreciated and helpful.

Hi, I can suggest to study the V-Model methodology for testing. There
are many materials in the net. It is a good start to learn the QA
process.

BTW, what do you mean "Although, testing is based
without any functional specs documents." ???

I mean the testing I am gonna perform is without any document(eg, use
case, requirement etc). actually, a Monkey Testing.

Please, would you be able to help me personally by chatting on
Messenger? This is my first job, so I really want to prove my self.

I would be searching now on V-Model methodology for testing. Please, I
would be highly obliged if you can meet me online on messenger.

Im sorry my friend, but we don't have messenger here in the office due
to security reason. Hope you understand.

I do have a similar experience in your situation. My suggestion is that
you should be imaginative. Understanding the process flow of the system
will be a challenge and I cannot help you with that. Your supervisor
should be able to guide you on this task because as you said no
business/technical requirements are available. Once you have grasp of
the system, you can perform a happy path or negative path for testing.
You can do unit test, functional test, or integation test. These type
of test are found in the V-Model.

Only your supevisor or subject matter expert in your company can help
you in our problem. We have no idea on the system that you are testing.

My first thought is, how did you get the job if you "dont know a bit of
QA." It is possible that your employer understands you don't have the
requisite QA knowledge and hired you for your lead abilities. If that is
the case, I would hope your team has the necessary QA knowledge and you
can get them to help you out.

If you obtained the job because you mislead the employer into believing
you had the requisite knowledge then you have a problem. You have now put
yourself in a difficult position. The best you can hope for is that you
are a fast learner.

The other possibility is that the person hiring you doesn't believe you
need any QA knowledge. Maybe they are under-estimating the knowledge
required for the position.

Regardless, either situation means you are on your own and need to learn
this material without help.

I don't have the time to chat on MSN messenger with you. The best I can
recommend is some read material. If you want to know the basics I would
recommend Testing Computer Software by Cem Kaner, Jack Falk and Hung Quoc
Nguyen. This is an excellent first book for someone wanting to get into
software testing.

I would also recommend the http://www.swebok.org for the Software
Engineering Body of Knowledge. This free document gives you the basics of
software engineering. Note: it is not the way everyone develops software
but it gives you a start on terminology and references. It contains quite
a few references to other books you should know about if you are going to
get serious about Quality Assurance. It also helps to differentiate
between QA and testing.

If you are interested in testing then you can also check out
http://www.kaner.com for articles by Cem Kaner and
http://www.stickyminds.com/testing.asp.

Good luck,
Darrell

My comments is to study how to clarify requirement and design test
scripts in formal documents.

Thanks for your kind suggestions.

Yes, you are right about guessing my situation. The employer personally
knows me very well. He also knows that he dont know anything about SQA,
but he has trust on me and believe on me that I can do anything, more
than the situation demands.

But, problem for now is I need a community of QA people, with whom I
can discuss. and For that, I need people like you, who can understand
my situation. Waiting for your reply.
