Author changing \tableofcontents margins

Hi guys,

I'm using the Latex report class, and generating a
table of contents using \tableofcontents.

The problem is \tableofcontents sets the margins at the
top of the Contents page to 2 inches, and I want to
change that. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

I tried using:

\addtolength{\topmargin}{-1in}
\addtolength{\textheight}{1in}

just before the command, but it's a two page table, and
then the top margin for the second page is too short.

Is there a command in Latex that will change just the
settings for the next page, and no other pages?

Thanks, John L.
