Author Where to put startup code in MATLAB GUI?

I want to set up a few paths into variables when I start my GUI, and I want
the GUI to quit immediately if I failed to retreive those paths from the
server.

I put a 'close all' or 'delete(hObject)' statement in main_OpeningFcn(), but
it seems like it's giving me errors.

Did I put my startup code at the wrong place? I'd really apppreciate any
advice.

Cheers,
Hoi
