Did you try to re-install Matlab?

I haven't yet. I think that's what I'm going to have to do, but I
wondered if there was something small I could otherwise do to solve
the problem.

I have the same problem using the same Matlab's version and Windows
XP Home and reinstalled many times. I'm searching the solution.
