Author Image type (or querying an image format)

Hi, Best regards for all of you that are here at
<comp.soft-sys.matlab>:

I have a simple question regarding how to know the format of an image.

The function "isrgb(A)", where A is an image, is reported to be
obsolete and may be removed in future versions of Matlab.

For me, this function was the easiest way to know if an image was of
type RGB or not. The same occurred with "isind", "isgray" and "isbw".

Does someone knows why Mathworks did this? And does someone knows a way
of doing this without lots of matrix comparisons (using another
built-in Matlab function, for example)? If someone knows how to do
this, please share it with me.

Thanks in advance,

JanKees
