you know those dropdowns on the top of the screen that show all your classes
and functions? well they disappeared and I can figure out how to put them
back. Does anyone know how to?

Right-click on the empty area of your toolbar and turn on Class Wizard
(or try every toolbar there is until you find the one you need).

Probably because you're opening a file which isn't included in the project,
make sure of that...
