c++ certification?
|
|
|
| Does anyone know of any certificates in C++ programming that are useful to
have in the industry? (In terms of getting a job or freelancing etc)

Both of these exams were discontinued in June 2004. There are no MS
certifications in C++ at this time. Nor do I know of one from any other
vendor. Except for http://brainbench.com/ - but I don't believe anybody
takes this one seriously.
I've been both hiring and job hunting fairly recently - in my experience
there is now no C++ certification any employer cares about. An MCP
certificate may actually hurt your chances in some quarters rather than
helping them.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not
necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to
land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly
overhead. -- RFC 1925

| IIRC there're a lot of companies (in Russia) that're hiring employers using
tests from http://brainbench.com/.
IMHO one of them is Kasperksy Lab. Am I wrong ? ;)

I don't know. I haven't been to Russia since 1999, and I have not job
hunted in Russia since 1993. Back then, nobody heard of Brainbench as
far as I could tell (I'm not sure they even existed). Here in the US,
nobody seems to know or care about them now, again as far as I can tell.

| Brainbench test's are a joke. For one job I was forced to take the C++ test
and now that it is on my CV no one takes it seriously -- even though their
tests are harder than the MS tests. Employers are sure to tech you before
they hire you.

Some people feel that MCP exams test the wrong skills. They believe that
there are so many "paper MCPs" that it completely devalues the brand.
Search newsgroup archives for the term "paper MCP" to see what I mean.

| I've got a feeling that those exams test how well you can memorize those
things you don't have to remember (what are arguments of CreateSomething
function and all the flags passed to it?). The kind of things I'd rather
look up in the doc.

AFAIR the same type of c++ tests were (and probably are) on
http://brainbench.com/...
