Whenever I try to save a photo from the web... in my email, on a webpage...
anywhere... and its a jpg or gif file my computer wants to save it as a
bitmap file. What can I do to change this and have it save the photo as is?

Wierd. I just started having that problem in the last few days. The pop-up box when you right click wants to save it only in bitmap, and doesn't even give you a choice! Very annoying. I hope someone will help us out of this. I tried closing explorer & re-starting; re-booting; and even using the Windows XP restore to go back a w, and still no luck.

TRY REMOVING ALL YOUR TEMPORARY FILES. This seems to have worked for me so far. TOOLS> INTERNET OPTIONS> REMOVE FILES

Hope this works for you.
