Try Healthmonitor, it's Opensource and fully customizable; allow sql
logging, text file logging, and many notification methods (e-mail, sms,
net send..)

| Good question. You may also want to think about load balancing across a
cluster of web service hosts and using something like an Alteon content
switch to check if the instances are alive. Works a treat!
