| Hi,
All that Microsoft has ended is "free" VB6 support. Paid support continues
until 2008, and contract support through 2012. The ending of free support
for VB6 implies that Microsoft will not release any new updates (Service
Packs) for VB6, but who knows?
I'm sure the VB6 newsgroups will be around for a LONG time.

Probably not as long as there is activity. They will be around through at least the extended support
period.

I wouldn't expect them to as long as there are people posting questions
here. However, if they ever did shut them down, there would always be
the
comp.lang.basic.visual
comp.lang.basic.visual.misc
comp.lang.visual.basic
newsgroups where one could ask their questions at.

| Rick, I would follow you into the darkest of caverns, expecting only, if
anything, to secure your return..
You are a light amidst precautioned paths; not withstanding Randy, BobO,
Veign, Karl, Jim, Al, and Ken,
Jeff, Dick, and Paul... to name a few. Semper Fi.

LOL... you surely wouldn't want to follow me.... anywhere <g>. I've always
had the absolute worst sense of direction of anyone I know (or have ever
known). Started when I got lost @ age 4. There I was, wandering around Reno
Navada, totally clueless of where I was or where I was going.... extremely
lucky that I knew my phone number 'cause I'd probably still be wandering
around there <g>
Seriously.... I can pull in to the parking lot of a store and go the wrong
way when leaving... on trips, I'll ask the wife... Which way? She'll say
"Which way do you think?", I'll say "Left", she'll say "then, you'd better
turn right"... she's usually right.
Heck... I can get lost in a studio apartment. I know it sounds funny... and
I joke about it often... but, really it's not funny at all. I *hate* the
feeling of being lost.

I'm reminded of a computer game I used to play, back before many of this newsgroup's
readers were even born. "You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike."
Bob
(there was also the slightly easier maze of _all different_ twisty little passages)

Although you probably have an adventure style game in mind, you
recollection reminds me of a game I used to enjoy on my first computer
(a Texas Instruments TI-99/4). It was called "Hunt the Wumpus". Every
move took you to another cavern in a large maze of caverns. The cavern
wall were colored (as I remember) to give you a clue about its proximity
to dangers in other caverns. In one of the caverns was a Wumpus, which
would kill you if you stumbled into its cavern. You were to deduce which
cavern the Wumpus was in and shoot an arrow into his cavern in order to
kill him first. A very simple game, but my (then) young son and I passed
many an enjoyable hour engaged in that game. Thanks for bringing that
memory out in me.

| Hi Bob:
I don't recall exactly how it ended... but I do recall at one time getting to the end
of the game -- took me forever and drove me crazy!
Thanks for the memories ;-)
Doug.
