Crystal Versions clobbering one another 8.5 vs vs.net 2003

Our vb.net 2003 application uses the built in version of Crystal and
distributes the Crystal merge modules in its setup kit. An installation has
clobbered an older product VB6 product (I was told but I think it may be a
VS.net 1.0) that uses Crystal 8.5. The older product can no longer create
reports that are exported to Word.

Has anyone else seen any version problems like this and have any suggestions
on how to fix it. Removing our application did not fix the issue, I assume
because our install updated elements in the GAC that are being used by the
earlier app....this is why I think there must be some .net elements to the
other product, Relius.
