Subreport not updating
|

| Hi all!
I'm new to Crystal Reports.
We purchased a canned application using Crystal Reports as it's
reporting tool. The canned reports include a company logo of the
software vendor. I'd like to change it to our logo. There are a lot
of reports, and I wasn't relishing the task.
I opened a report, and noticed the logo was created by a subreport. I
was happy! So I found the subreport, renamed it, then edited the old
logo out and put the new logo in, then saved it under the old file
name (i.e. renamed SLColorLogoBitMap.rpt as SLColorLogoBitMap_Old.rpt,
edited SLColorLogoBitMap_Old.rpt and saved as SLColorLogoBitMap.rpt).
I then did File -> Options -> Reporting -> Re-Import Sub-reports When
Opening Reports flag to Yes. When I open the report in the
application and in Crystal, it shows the old logo. I was !
When I delete the subreport, and then put then recreate the subreport
referencing the same file, the new logo appears. But there doesn't
seem to be any advantage to embedding the logo or embedding the
subreport if I need to delete and reinsert every time there's a
change.
So the questions is: Am I doing something wrong, or forgetting to do
something with the subreport? I'd rather not edit over 400 reports if
it can be helped.
cheers,
Matt.

| Yes, you are doing something wrong.
Since you have updated the sub-report outside the main report; do the
following:
Open up the Main report which contains your sub-reports,
Right-click on the sub-report that needs to be update and select re-import
sub-report.
Refresh the Main report and it should update with your changes.

| Thanks for your quick reply.
When I right click on te sub report the following Menu options appear:
Subreport: SLColorLogoBitMap.rpt
Format Subreport....
Edit Subreport.....
Save Subreport as ....
Change subreport links...
Move
Size and Position
Delete
Cancel Menu
As you can see, re-import is not an option. The Windows OS tells me I
have Full Control over the object. As far as I can tell, there is no
data or code behind the subreport; it only contains the pasted image.
Once again, any help is greatly appreciated.
cheers,
Matt.

| I use both Crystal 8.5 and Crstal XI, they both display an option 'Re-import
Sub report' when I select a subreport and right-click on it.
BTW, what version are you using?

| I'm using 9.2.3
Are there any permissions/properties on the report that would restrict
what shows on the menu?
cheers,
Matt.

| Matt,
It should not be a security issue. Also, I used 9.5 in 2004 and I was able
to see that option.
The other option is that you do not modify individual subreport; modify it
from within the Main report. Right-click on a subreport that you want to
modify and select 'Edit Subreport' from the menu. This way, you don't need to
worry about re-import process of the subreport.

| I have 9.2..3.156 on this computer.
When I right click a subreport I see the re-import option.
If I change the name of the subreport in one of my reports it still
appears.
So... dunno.

| Where in the menu is it listed? On the options I gave earlier in this
thread, is there anything else that's missing? Do I have something
that nobody else has?
My Crystal Report build is 9.2.3.794
cheers,
Matt.
