Author Merge Modules for VS.NET 2005
n33470

Are there plans to release a set of merge modules for VS.NET 2005? If
so, if there a projected timeframe. We're trying to get our web farm
updated to reflect the new release.

Is it still necessary to use merge modules to get the product key
entered in order to unlock the Crystal engine to allow more than 5
simultaneous users?

Thanks for any information you can provide!

Steve,

VS2005 comes with an msi installation program that installs the Crystal for
VS2005 redistributable. Unfortunately Microsoft didn't make it easy to
find. I wasted about half a day trying to find it on Microsoft and Business
Objects web sites. I finally discovered that after installing VS2005 it is
located here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio
8\SDK\v2.0\BootStrapper\Packages\CrystalReports. The file name is
CRRedist2005_x86.msi.

Rob,

We've already discovered and tried that. In fact that does install
the crystal stuff just fine. The problem however is that I'm not
convinced that the crystal engine is fully unlocked to release the
restriction on the number of concurrent users.

For us, this will be used on a web farm, and we need to have
essentially unlimited concurrent users. For a winForm deployment,
this MSI would work just fine. I'm wondering how to install this on a
web server and have unlimited concurrent users.

For CR.NET 2005, is there the concept of a resticted, or throttled,
number of concurrent users?

Eric,

No, I don't think that's right. I think those merge modules are for
VS.NET 2002. The file named 'cr_net_mergemodules_en.zip' is for 2002
and the file named 'cr_net_2003_mergemodules_en.zip' is for 2003.

I'm looking for the merge modules for VS.NET 2005.

This page on the Crystal website summarizes the versions of all merge
module downloads they currently have:
http://support.businessobjects.com/..._modules.asp#04 and
VS.NET 2005 is not mentioned there.

CR 2005 is throttled again, there is no "unlock" that will grant more than 5
simultaneous threas AFAIK. You'll need a full version of CR to scale.

Richard,

In CR 2003, we were able to unlock the crystal engine by entering our
registration number and license key information in the properties of
the "regwiz.msm" merge module. When we did that, it was fully
scalable on our web farm. This worked in CR 2003 just fine.

I'm looking to do the same thing with CR 2005, however, I can't find
crystal merge modules that are specific to CR 2005 anywhere.

Steve,

I found the file and installed it, but I am unable to find the Crystal*.msm (merge module) files after installation, to use it in WebSetup solution.

Can you please tell me after install where does not all the Crystal merge module files are placed? They are not in c:/Program Files/Common Files/ Merged Module/ folder.

Regards,

Manish
