All:

We have already deployed Crystal 11 in our environment. We are
*planning* our migration to Visual Studio 2005, and contemplating
whether to install Crystal for VS2K5 along with it. Our investigation
has shown that Crystal for VS2K5 is based on the Crystal 10 engine, and
we are looking for an answer to this question:

Will the install of CR for VS2K5 affect an *existing*, working install
of Crystal 11 (full product)?

We know that to achieve VS/Crystal integration with the version 11
product requires us to obtain CR XI Release 2, and we're prepared to
deploy that, but obviously not until we know that installing the VS2K5
version of Crystal won't botch what's already there.

Many thanks for your assistance,
David

Greetings David

You can do a side by side install of CR XI Release 2.
It is an option when you run the installer.

I have a working version of CR 11
(obtained and installed before I acquired VS2005)

The side by side install will keep the existing CR 11 files
and folders and install the new items into separate folders.

My CR 11 works fine though I have yet to get around to using
Crystal Reports from within VS2005 in any serious way.

DO NOT select the replace existing installation option as it
will wipe out CR 11 files you will need.

Hope this helps

Stathis:

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

I guess my situation is just a tad different from yours or at least
what I'm trying to verify is a bit different.

What I'm wanting to know is that if I already have Crystal 11 in place,
then install VS2005 with Crystal for VS, will the latter affect the
former? Will the Crystal for VS affect the "regular" CR11 on the same
box?

Also, could you help me understand why I shouldn't perform a
replace-install of CR XI V2 in terms of it replacing "files I need?" My
instinct it telling me that if CR for VS won't affect CR XI, it would
stand that a CR XI V2 would update both versions to the proper level -
both for standalone use and for VS integration. What am I not
understanding?

Thanks again for your interest and willingness to help. It is much
appreciated.
