error: 'this field is not known' using crw 9 runtime

When a string parameter in my report is used in combination with crystal
reports 9 runtime dll's my application returns:
'This field is not known' after entering a value for this parameter.

when I have installed crystal reports completely in combination with my
application the error will not be generated.

do I miss some runtime files or is this a bug in crystal reports runtime
viewer ?

hope anyone can give me an answer.
