This is a worthy cause.

Let's all take a moment and add our voices to Randy and the others who
have found this petition a worthwhile thing.

Don't wait. There are only a couple of days to do this.

Go. Now. Take a shot.

And keep in mind that this not only affects professional developers but also
wend warriors creating shareware applications, tools for self-use, or
just playing around with Visual Basic....

To sign the petition of course. This item is newsworthy now and is being
written about all over the net but unless there is a huge groundswell of
support the media will grow tired of it in a few days at most..

I signed the petition, but I am wondering why you did not ask that all
the innovative programming aids that are in VB.net be imported into
VB7? Yes, that's what it should be called. VB7

Do you mean you can't find the place where you actually sign the
petition? If so, at the bottom of the page that the link I posted takes
you to, there is a "Sign the petition" link or, alternately, you can
click on the large picture of a pen writing on a monitor or the words
"Sign the petition" that is attached to that picture. If you want to see
who has already signed the petition, click on the View all signatories
or View Microsoft MVP signatories depending on which grouping you want
to see.

No... I mean that I don't click on links that have absolutely no explanation
as to why they exist.

With a bit more experience with VB related newsgroup or with VB related web
sites You presumably would know that Randy isn't one who wants to lead
anyone to suspicious web sites... :-)

I agree with you on that. It's sloppy bordering on crass...
maybe even smug in some cases....but you could have
just asked for an explanation.

100+ MVPs, plus other interested people (over 1000),
have signed on to a petition asking Microsoft to please
consider maintaining support for VB6 and adding it,
or an updated version of it, into the .Net IDE so that it
might continue as a current Windows programming
language.
As of this past w MS said they are not reconsidering
and VB support was due to transition to paid support
only. (There was a story about it at Infoworld.com)

I know... but I did ask near the beginning of the thread.

One of the reasons I'm moving away from Microsoft languages wherever
possible.

Presumably You would be the first to point out that the respective posting
isn't Yours...
But in years of participating in newgroup discussions I have never seen a
case where the name of a newsgroup participant was used for spamming in the
newsgroup itself.

How long does it take before an email is sent to confirm the signer and the name to appear on the petition? The signature process
does not seem to be working for me.

If you have filtering in effect, ie, HotMail drops messages from
people that are not in your list, you'll need to add the domain,
vbclassic.org to your permitted list. Otherwise you'll never
receive the email. It takes maybe a minute for the email to get
there. Check your filtering.

Hmmm... I tried two different email addresses, neither of which have any filtering on them. I guess I'll try a third.
