How to play custom ringtone

I write an application that should play a custom sound file when it detects
an incoming call. The problem I have is that I haven't found a way how to
disable playing of the default ringtone. What's happening is that either my
custom sound file is not played at all (I use the PlaySound function) under
Mobile 2003 platform or is played with very low volume in the background of
the default (and loud) ringtone under Mobile 2005 platform. Is there any way
to disable playing of the default ringtone? (Another solution may be
temporary overwriting of the default ringtone with the custom one but this
may bring up all sorts of problems related to race conditions between my
application and the default call handler program).
